WordPress came onto the scene in 2003. I spent fifteen-plus years hating every aspect of it and refusing to use it, instead hand-coding every site I worked on, even the complex ones. I still think out of the box it’s a one-size-really-fits-none solution, but after sitting down and really getting to know it, I have to admit that it has grown into a workable solution for many sites–and I’ve even been able to quickly generate some very usable content that, most importantly, is usable by others. That’s really the most important thing–no matter how great my custom coded sites worked, if I was the only person who could maintain them, that just made my life more difficult!
This page contains some tips I’ve learned that helped make working with WordPress easier. Some of them are super-easy to use, others require getting under the hood a bit more.
