Image Editing — Background Modification

There are many reasons you may wish to modify an image—a site revamp, removal of an unwanted feature, making a background transparent, or just making a change from what a manufacturer might supply as stock photography.

For this image, the original, shown below, displayed a pair of glasses—the target object—on top of a book. The goal was to remove the book entirely, rotate the glasses to a position that would be more appropriate for a catalog display, and add a gradient background. Because I had to cut the lenses out to remove the image of the book, after making the required modifications, I added a slight opacity to the space where the lenses should be, to simulate the polycarbonate and give a little realism to the photo.
